Can Rotorua finally stop the bleeding or is North Harbour too strong?
Threw a cheeky NZ$20 on North Harbour -9.5 already and I'm second-guessing it after looking at the home form. Bay of Plenty smacked Hawke's Bay 32-17 at Rotorua a couple weeks back, but the two weeks before that were ugly. 12-29 to Manawatu at home, then 12-43 down in Invercargill. Conceding 29 and 43 in consecutive weeks is a proper leak, whatever the opposition.
The TAB has this as Harbour favourite but the line feels about right rather than generous. Logic for me: Harbour are settled, Steamers conceded 88 points across those two losses, and 26-45 away to Tasman wasn't much better. The Hawke's Bay win keeps me honest, that's the one result that could've landed me in trouble if I'd gone harder. I'd keep this as a single, not a multi leg. Home ground, local crowd, all that counts for something, but I'm backing the side that didn't ship five-plus tries twice in a fortnight. We'll see if I'm crying into a pint Sunday. 😭🍺

✓The fact that BoP secured a heavy win over Hawke's Bay just weeks ago definitely makes the current market sentiment easy to follow, but we mustn't let a single peak distract from the underlying trend over the last few outings. The performance against Manawatu on the 5th of September, 12:29 loss at home, sits in stark contrast to the sheer obliteration they handed out to Hawke's Bay on the 19th, 32:17. When you look at the full five-game sample spanning early September into October, the losses aren't evenly distributed across the home and away environments. Specifically, BoP has suffered both of their recent away losses - to Southland (12:43) and Tasman (26:45) - by huge margins. They've managed one solid home win and one tight home defeat, suggesting a dependency on getting things sorted at Rotorua International Stadium before moving on. Given the nature of this small dataset, the evidence points more towards a massive away form issue than a general inability to compete.Numbers > vibes.

That Hawke's Bay win at Rotorua is the one data point that matches the venue, and home legs in the NPC swing harder than a three-match skid suggests. I'd rather take BoP +10ish than touch Harbour straight out. Kept my weekend multi away from this one entirely, too many unknowns on selection.Bankroll discipline wins.

StatHeadnerd, remind me how your BoP +10 special went against Southland? Oh wait, that was a 31-point hammering down south 😂 One good home afternoon vs Hawke's Bay and suddenly everyone's a punter genius. I'll happily take the Harbour side of the line while the fanboys talk themselves into Rotorua doing miracles 💸😏Any stat can be bent.

it’s true that having the home turf is worth a lot, but we've seen that before, a single standout performance shouldn't cloud the mountain of consistency issues. looking at the scores, those big wins are rare when the pressure’s on, and after years watching the game, you learn that talent alone isn't enough, you need heart too.

Are you serious with the hype around BoP's home ground advantage after they looked like utter garbage just weeks before that one win? People keep going on about that massive 32-17 win over Hawke's Bay at Rotorua International Stadium, but what about the two preceding heavy defeats? It’s wild to see people still shilling BoP +10 when they just folded for 12:29 against Manawatu only four games ago. It honestly makes me wonder if any of you punters are basing these big bets on actual rugby ability or just hoping for a fluke. Look, that single standout performance against Hawke's Bay doesn't magically erase the string of consistent bleeding they had leading up to it. In reality? betting on the 'home spirit' when the results don't back it up is just a recipe for losing your NZ$ on the TAB. 🤡😂Here to argue, not to nod along.

you keep bringing up that win over Hawke's Bay, which is fair enough, but it just feels like one good day versus a rough run, doesn't it? i’ve seen teams have a single moment of magic like that, but if they can't string any consistent form together, the bookies will always find a way to exploit those dips. reminds me of some amateur matches back when the big names were just trying to find their feet, lucky if they could pull out a half-win before the season ended.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Honestly, all this talk about the home advantage feels like wishful thinking from a poor punter. You guys are fixated on the win over Hawke's Bay, but ignore that they’ve dropped a massive 12:43 away to Southland, and then another 12:29 loss to Manawatu. It’s a bit of a lottery to think they suddenly shift the momentum when the books have clearly settled on North Harbour holding the upper hand. 💸😏

it’s hard not to see the stats piling up against the bay of plenty, those defeats to manawatu and southland really do tell a story of some fragility lately. still, even with a shaky run like that, the local pitch at rotorua stadium has a way of catching folks when they get to the bigger fixtures, i've seen that happen more times than i care to mention.Seen it all, lads.

Seriously, you lot are still obsessed with some random home advantage boost when the scorelines tell a different story. Losing 12:43 away to Southland shows exactly what happens when they get rattled, which is half the time. Don't mistake one isolated win for actual form. If you think they're serious contenders, you're way too high on the hype; the bookies know better. It's a lottery, not sport.

AmyBlues has a point, the Southland night was hard to watch, seen worse though in forty years of standing on terraces. But form at Rotorua's a funny thing, that Hawke's Bay win wasn't a fluke to my eye, the crowd lifts them there. I'd be wary of anything past -9.5 myself. 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

it’s funny how these prediction battles get so heated when it comes to the bookies' lines. you see the scores, and the stats look like they’ve been through a grinder, don't they? that manawatu and southland stuff, those results definitely make a punter pause before laying serious dough. but you gotta remember that rugby, even at this level, isn't all about the spreadsheet. i’ve seen enough seasons come and go, watching the games here, and sometimes you just need a bit of grit when the runs dry up. a team like bay of plenty has big games to play, bigger than just one or two results. the crowd helps, that much is true, and that’s something you can't calculate into a favourite line. hope they can pull it together, they're a good crew when they find their feet. 😄Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Anyone obsessed with the 12:43 scoreline needs to remember that 32:17 blowout win. That’s the evidence. Stop overthinking it, mate. 💸It's a lottery, not sport.

The bleed is scary, absolutely, but the raw score difference shows the capability is still there. I reckon the market is over-pricing the volatility right now, so I'm locking in a specific margin in the first half rather than risking the outright result. Bankroll is everything, mate, so I’m keeping it tactical and waiting to see how they handle the early scrum before committing more. Wish us luck for the 4th. 🔥Value over a big price 💸
