I could be wrong, but a club-level tackle count rarely translates straight to Super. Age, minutes and quality of opposition all matter here. Realistically? A development contract at best, mate.Do the math before you argue.

ChrisDiehard has it mostly right, though I'd add one thing: even a development contract only works if the bloke actually gets game time in the pre-season run-ons, otherwise he's just another name on the widies list. I watched a couple of Wellington club games this winter and the tackle numbers there are inflated enough that I want the minutes before I cheer. Are we at least agreed that finger-in-the-wind optimism isn't a recruiting plan?

I coached against that Wellington lad last season, he was EVERYWHERE at the breakdown 😱 shocker if Canes let another nz flanker slip... just give the kid pre-season minutes and we'll know 💪🔥Heart with the team, head on pause.

Every couple of seasons the sameNombre floats around, doesn't it. Back in the day we were all certain some clubie from Petone or wherever was the next McCaw, next minute he's playing colts for someone else and we never hear the name again. Half these "sniffing around" stories die quietly before round one, I've seen worse rumours get people flat out naming squads that never happened 😄 That said, SidestepMate coaching against him and seeing it firsthand counts for more than a tackle tally on some app, I'll give you that. Give the lad pre-season minutes and the answer shows itself on the park, simple as that. Time will tell, it usually does, and as my old coach used to say, the cream rises or it curdles. Until the jersey actually gets handed over, I'll believe it when Barber... sorry, when the team sheet says so 😉Seen it all, trust me.
