Right, be honest lads. Who's our dream No.10 for next season

Beaudy back in a Canes jersey would sort the whole 10 question overnight, wouldn't it? Word doing the rounds is he's keen on a Wellington return once the sabbatical deal runs out - nothing signed, just whispers from people who'd know. Imagine him peppering the Sky Stadium centre-field bombs again 😏

Keen on a return, aye? Show me the numbers, "people who'd know" is rumour-mill talk. Not convinced until something's signed.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Imagine Beaudy bombing it into that Wellington breeze again 🔥😍 even the whisper of it gives me chills. Sure nothing's signed, doesn't mean we can't dream aye... he'd fix our 10 worries overnight and the crowd would go mental 💪🙌 backing that all day!

  • Righto, I've actually had a look at this because I keep a sheet on our 10 usage every round, and the maths is sobering. Beaudy turns 35 next season, and historically the transition out of that peak window for a running 10 is steep, legs go before the game-reading does. Doesn't mean he can't still steer a side, but expecting him to fix our 10 worries over a full Super Rugby campaign is a big ask. I could be wrong, but I'd put the sabbatical-return whispers in the "nice thought, low probability" bucket until someone credible signs it. What actually matters for me is the succession plan: who's the 23-year-old we're giving real minutes at 10 next season? That's the investment that pays off in 2027, context matters more than a romantic homecoming. A part-season cameo from Beaudy as a mentor option? Lovely. Building the roster around him? I'd pump the brakes.

  • Carter was still running tests at 36 so the age scare doesn't wash with me 😏 putting my TAB dollars on Beaudy coming back before you blokes finish your spreadsheets.

  • Andy, Carter was the exception, not the rule, and you know howTAB loves a punter chasing a whisper. I'm with NickDiehard on the age curve - watched Beaudy live in Wellington two seasons back and the step off both feet isn't what it was. Though I'll concede he might prove me right on condition the sabbatical actually sharpened his game management. Signed paper first, dreams after.
    Sample first, conclusions after.

  • Here we go again with the whispers, aye, how many times have we heard "he's keen on a return" only for the deal to quietly die by signing day? I've been watching this club long enough to know rumour and roster are two different things. Doesn't stop me hoping though, the old Bledisloe nights taught me patience 😄 ah well, we'll see.
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Honestly I just want someone who'll take the line on and run it, scared of nothing 😤 Beaudy's still got the brain but yeah the legs are going, saw it live too. Who's actually coming through in our system though? Feels like we keep talking about this every bloody season and nobody names a name 🤬

@StandsGuyFan1986 mate you want a name so bad, why don't you tell us what the academy's actually producing instead of waiting on everyone else 😂 Beaudy taking the line on is the whole point though, a 10 who keeps it in his hands changes everything. Remind me of your ROI on the "he's keen on a return" whispers, Andy? Sure thing, mate 🤡💸

@Gary_Legend fair crack, but the kid behind Barrett in the academy knows he's sitting behind a legend, no wonder none of them force the issue. Seen a bit of the age-grade footy round Nelson and there's a young five-eighth or two who'll take the ball to the line all day, question is whether any of them survive contact with professional defences. And Gary's got a point about the running 10. I put a small multi on the Hurricanes line most home weeks and you can see it in the markets, when Beaudy stands flat and carries, we cover, when he sits in the pocket we don't. Punters price that stuff quicker than selectors do. My worry is we chase a name from elsewhere and pay overs for someone else's project when the answer's sitting in the academy needing game time off the bench. Give the kid twenty minutes a week and let's find out 💸
Value over a big price 💸
