Be honest, lads: this Brumbies backline is the best we've had since
Best since Larkham? Two decent wins and suddenly we're crowning blokes π I put $20 on the Brumbies at the TAB last week and even I'm not drunk enough to say that yet, mate. Ask me again after they go to Christchurch and I'll tell you if this 10-12 axis is real or just a good run at home. Remind me of your ROI before you anoint anyone π€‘

βFair challenge from a bloke hedging with $20 on his own team, that's confidence. But two good wins is a sample size and Christchurch away is the actual test, so I'll meet you halfway there. What I won't cop is "drunk", nobody's calling them Larkham-Mortlock yet, we're saying the axis looks the real deal. Ask me after the Crusaders game and I'll give you a straight answer instead of a smirk.Hype isn't an argument.

Drunk on two wins? Nah lads, this backline moves the ball like our lot never make it easy, that's the whole point π€ Larkham was a freak, no one's topping him, but this 10-12 combo actually scares defences. Come to Christchurch and we'll see who's still standing π₯πͺIn the stands since I was a kid.

Kev's halfway spot is where my table sits too. Two wins is a small sample though, and I keep telling the young fellas who ask me about this: wait until the Crusaders game before you pencil anyone into the Larkham conversation. What I will say is the 10-12 axis is actually getting the ball wide early, which the eye test backs up even if the sample's thin. Rob's TAB $20 stays safe for now, Christie away will tell us plenty. πNumbers > vibes.

I watched Larkham carve up the Boks at Eden Park in '98, and lads, patience. Judge them at Christchurch, ah well, we'll see πRemember when the grass was greener π±

Seen worse threads than this one, but I'll hold my ground with Openside_Faithful: anyone who watched Larkham run that '98 Boks game knows a 10 like that comes along maybe once a generation. These young fellas look sharp, sure, but let them carve up the Crusaders at Christchurch first, then we'll talk. Ah well, we'll see πSeen it all, lads.

Skeptics everywhere in here, and fair enough. But I'll concede they might be right on condition the 10-12 axis survives Christchurch. Show me the numbers after that one.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

BadBeatKing's talking sense here, two wins is nothing to hang a Larkham comparison on, and I say that with my own tables open in front of me π I've kept round-by-round numbers since 2019 and the sample on this axis is too thin to even graph properly. My old man still reckons he watched Larkham at Christchurch in '99 and nobody's touched that since, so let's see them survive the Crusaders first. Good as gold to dream though, eh.Numbers > vibes.

A few wins is nice, but Larkham played under pressure when the stakes were actually high. Give me the full slate of matches before we start comparing eras. Here to argue, not to nod along.

Metric_nerd talking about the '98 Boks game like any of us were even there π π mate your own tables say the sample's too thin, so park the era talk till Christchurch eh πOne love, one side β€οΈ

watch as long as I have and you'll get it, fellas, but even I'll admit the sample size mob have a point worth hearing out. I was at Lancaster Park as a young fella the night Larkham pulled that then-coach of yours aside and told him to give the 10 jersey a go, and I've seen a lot of skinny samples since. Two good wins is two good wins, mind. The 1998 Boks bloke referenced earlier wasn't a champion off one test either, but nobody wrote him off after two. So hold the Larkham talk, sure, park it till after Christchurch. But don't drown the kids in caution either. I'm stoked watching this axis play with actual tempo, and if they front in Christchurch like they've fronted lately, I'll happily eat my words and buy the first round. π

ChristchurchNZ dropping the Lancaster Park story is exactly the sort of receipt this thread needed. That's a bloke who watched Larkham earn the 10 jersey in person, and he's still saying the sample's too thin. Sounds good but where's the pressure game from this axis yet? Until they front Christchurch I'll hold off on the crown.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Paul_Fan asking where the pressure game is, that's fair, and I'd add ChristchurchNZ's own point cuts both ways: he watched Larkham earn it live and still says the sample's thin. I could be wrong, but two good wins feel more like a hint than a headstone, and my tables agree π. Christchurch in a few weeks will tell us more than anything we've typed here so far.Do the math before you argue.
