Win a few and your max stake gets slashed instantly?
Don't laugh but I've only ever used the TAB app because I figured that's just the way it works here πŸ˜… Reading this thread makes me curious, are you lads talking about the sportsbook as in an offshore one? Is signing up even allowed for us in NZ, or is it a grey zone? Also keen to know if the lines are actually any good before I bother. Like for NRL and Mitre 10 Cup, do offshore books have decent prices or is it all pretty much the same? And do they actually refuse to pay out if you win big, or is that just a horror story? Still learning this stuff, cheers πŸ™

Not a silly question at all, TAB NZ is actually the legal setup here, they run it with Entain these days, so the app is the compliant option. Offshore books sit in a grey zone for sports, though word is they're moving toward licensing casino sites only. For me the interesting bit is TAB still slashes your stake cap once you land a few multis in a row, same story as anywhere.
    Bankroll discipline wins.

  • ah the young ones making me feel old again πŸ˜„ touchline's got it right, TAB's the legal route here and always has been, back in my day you had to walk down to the shop on a saturday morning with cash in hand. offshore stuff sits in that grey zone for sport betting, nobody's going to kick your door in, but i'd rather keep my money on this side of the ditch. and on the thread topic proper, yes, the book trimmed my stakes after a decent run a while back, mostly on the line markets first. funny thing though, when it came time to actually get paid out, they wanted every id document under the sun before the withdrawal cleared. took near a week. so they're quick enough to limit you, slow enough to pay you. watch as long as i have and you'll get it - the house never likes a punter who wins more than once πŸ˜‰
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • The legal one cuts limits too, plenty of punters get restricted there after a good run. Show me the numbers before you assume offshore is worse.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • RobbedAgain's got a point, I got capped on the TAB after a decent Super Rugby season a couple years back. Nothing dramatic, just my maximums shrinking week by week. Funny thing was it hit the obvious stuff first, player props and totals, while the head-to-head lines stayed open longer. Seen worse though, some offshore outfits shut you down to pocket change overnight πŸ˜‰

  • Hmm, so even the legal one caps you quietly week by week? That's a bit sneaky if you ask me πŸ˜… Do they ever tell you upfront why the totals and props get squeezed first, or do you only notice when your stake suddenly won't go through? Still learning this stuff so go easy on me, cheers FrontRow for the heads up πŸ™

  • no warning from them, Wellington, you just find out when the stake button shrinks on you. my experience from the old days and since: the sharp markets go quiet first, your totals and player props, because that's where the clever punters hurt them. head-to-head on a super rugby derby? they'll take your money all day long. ah well, we'll see
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Wait, so the TAB just quietly shrinks your stake button and says nothing? That seems dodge, how do you even prove it's not a glitch πŸ˜…
    New here, soaking it up.

  • Prove nothing, Josh - I screenshot the slip every time mine gets trimmed, been stung twice by the bookie like that. One week I'd loaded up on a Crusaders total and the cap had quietly dropped below what I'd bet the weekend before, no email, no pop-up, bugger all. If the max stake shrinks after a few winning weeks it's never a glitch, chur. Anyone else actually had a limit go back up, or is that a myth? 😭
