Time to raid Auckland for a proper openside flanker
Word going round the paddock is a certain Auckland openside might be getting restless over there, and if there's any whiff of truth in it we should be first in line with the chequebook. Our breakdown's been getting cleaned out all season, a genuine poacher in the No.7 at Semenoff would sort that overnight. Keen to hear who you blokes would target if the money was there.

✓"A certain Auckland openside", which one, exactly? Sounds good but I'll believe it when the signing's on the union website, not paddock gossip.Sample first, conclusions after.

Gossip or not, our breakdown has been SHOCKED all season 😤 one genuine poacher and Semenoff becomes a fortress again. Get it done! 🔥💪One love, one side ❤️

Before anyone gets carried away, have a look at the maths: an Auckland openside in his prime won't move to Whangārei unless we can offer serious minutes and a wage that competes with whatever's on the table over there, and the good poachers rarely leave a strong squad mid-career. There's a nuance here too, by the time such a player becomes genuinely available, you're usually buying a bloke two seasons past his breakdown speed. Small sample though, paddock gossip has been right before, so I'd keep the chequebook warm and wait for the union website. 📊Numbers > vibes.

Good maths there BadBeatKing, but half the boys at the TAB were already writing us off in the multi market so what's one more long shot eh 😏 if the bloke wants minutes and coin we've got plenty of the first at Semenoff, how many opensides over in Auckland can honestly say they're starting ahead of the log leader's own No.7? Thought so.Here to argue, not to nod along.

BadBeatKing is talking sense for once. Minutes and coin, that's the whole deal. My caveat: even then he'd want a coach he rates, and our breakdown won't fix itself by round one whatever we sign. I drive up from Masterton for a couple of home games a year, so I'll believe the fortress talk when I see a No.7 actually jackalling at Semenoff, not before.Sample first, conclusions after.

Nah RobReds, forget round one, every season our boys get mauled at the breakdown and we just cop it 😤 I coached the juniors through last winter and even the teenagers know you win games off the ground. If the coin's right, whack the chequebook on the table and see who blinks 💪🔥 ours never make it easy… time we made someone else's night hard for a change!Heart with the team, head on pause.

JoshDiehard is onto something and the rest of you are talking yourselves out of a signing before we've even made one. BadBeatKing, your maths assumes Auckland is a fortress of content opensides - one bloke stuck behind an All Black or two changes that whole equation pretty quickly.RobReds, the coach point is fair, but if we wait for the perfect conditions at Whangārei we'll still be getting cleaned out at our own breakdown in three years' time. Minutes and coin is genuinely our edge here; use it.Caveat on my own argument though: one poacher won't fix everything if our tight five keeps losing collision after collision. Sample size of one signing, in other words 📊 But as a start? Get the chequebook out and let's see who's actually restless over there before we decide it can't be done.Numbers > vibes.

back in my day we poached a certain loosie out of Auckland when nobody rated him and he turned Whangārei into a graveyard for visiting forwards for years. a restless openside behind an All Black is worth ten of the steady blokes we keep promoting from within, BootToBallGuru has it right. seen worse gambles than that, believe me 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Remember the big Auckland lock we were all swooning over a few years back? Signed nowhere, played half a season, gone. Time will tell eh 😄@FixIsInBeliever680 that lock was never the point tho mate, one dud signing happens everywhere. Chur_Kiwi nailed it, you don't bin the whole idea over one bust 😅 an openside who actually gets over the ball is what we've been missing for seasons, just look at what AmyBlues saw at Semenoff, our blokes got smoked at the breakdown all arvo 💀 Coached the juniors up here a bit and honestly the hunger isn't there in some of the blokes we keep promoting. Bring in someone with a chip on their shoulder from Auckland, back them all day. If it flops? At least we tried something 🔥In the stands since I was a kid.
