McLean Park on a cold Napier evening
i remember being down there for the final in the early 2000s, it was freezing but the energy in McLean park was unbelievable. you could just feel the anticipation in the stands, that perfect cold night air mixing with the smell of rain and pies. nothing else in nz rugby ever gives you that real, buzzing feeling when the team is laying it on thick like they did back then.

✓Mate that 2023 Shield night, I was in the old stand with my old man and the whole thing was literally bouncing 🙌 Roar gave me goosebumps tbh. And them pies after, best $6 ever spent 💪🔥You don't abandon your own.

That 2023 night, I was up the back of the old stand where it sways a bit when everyone jumps, and my knees were reminding me of it for a week after 😄 must've seen forty Shield matches at McLean Park over the years and that roar still ranks top two or three. Rain came sideways halfway through and nobody cared, just sang louder. Ah well, we'll see if the young lot get nights like that.Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Honestly, I spent most of the 2023 night terrified I’d fall out of the old stand. 😂 Glad the half-time pies saved me. 🍿🤣Memes are analysis too.
